Crawford, Neb. - Joe Glover of Sawyerville, Ala., took a trophy bighorn ram in Nebraskas Pine Ridge near Crawford on Dec. 1, completing his quest for a grand slam of North American sheep.

Glover had placed the winning bid of $83,000 to win the 2005 Nebraska bighorn auction permit at the Grand Slam/Ovis Annual Conference in Biloxi, Miss., last January.

Two bighorn permits, a lottery permit made available to Nebraska residents and an auction permit, were authorized by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commissioners for the 2005 bighorn season. Funds raised by the sale of the permits are used for Nebraskas bighorn sheep management program.

The lottery permit was awarded to James D. Milliken of Wayne, who began his hunt on Dec. 2 and was hunting with a muzzleloader.

Glover took the 239-pound, full-curl ram from about 80 yards with a .300 caliber Weatherby rifle. "The country is beautiful. Everybody has been so nice and helpful," Glover said. "I loved and enjoyed the experience and really appreciated the opportunity to do it."
