I have a savage 220 and love it.. But for an all around deer gun its not good. I keep mine for stand hunting or watching fields where I'll get a steady shot or need a long range weapon.. Hard to beat a bump or semi auto with open sights for deer drives or brushy areas. The mossberg will have more versatility, the savage will be more accurate but more of a longer range gun since it needs a scope and slower follow up shoy

Mossberg's seem to like the accutips and federal trophy coppers. If you're looking for 3" buy throughout the spring and summer and stock up. Impossible to find during hunting season
