Because the sort of people who own side by sides simply won't have it! Stuff and nonsense.

To support this position, I believe that Stoeger's so-called "double defense", among the most reprehensible and regrettable creations of our era, is in fact ported. And if it isn't, it's only a matter of time....

I think most folks that shoot a SxS are at least a little traditional, and just can't bring themselves to do it.
Maybe they're a little smarter too. :)

I've seen one.

I almost puked.
I once knew of a fellow that had a sousa grade, Not many of them around, sent it to brileys to have it ported, and tube choked.

Talk about crying...

Another fellow at the cowboy shoot in Phx several years ago, made some cuts on some barrels to make coach guns, out of Parkers and Smiths. Wanted to cry then too.

I don't think I've ever seen one ported and really don't want to.

Just a thought that ran thru my mixed up little mind...Where or how would you do it if it were to be done. Most porting is towards the top of the barrel. If you did this on a SxS, you would have to look thru any left over smoke or mirage to get another shot off. If the porting was on the sides of the barrels, wouldn't it push the barrel off in the opposite direction when fired? I'd hate to see what the results would be if it were ported underneath...

Yes, sad to say I've seen what had been a rather nice one, not only ported...but with screw in chokes ....to top it off the cretin had extended, ported, (what I believed to be) Rhino chokes in it...(Couldn't bring myself too close to see, and would never ask)....I know where he lives....I've always invisioned horsewhipping the SOB.....But as well deserved as it would be, I doubt it would do any good nor redress the sin.......Art

Never seen a ported SxS, but saw a beautiful Holland & Holland with an adjustable stock. What a crime!
Enough to make a grown man cry.

I was offered a H&H Royal that had single trigger, pistol grip, beavertail forend and Brileys.

It's hard to imagine what ails people.

Seen one? Hell, I bid on one!

Not that I specifically wanted or liked the porting, its just a nicely set up gun.
(I tend to embrace or discard tradition on a case-by-case basis :))

Just where would you put the ports? On top or off to the side to help with torque? Oh, never mind. I can't find my pants.
A little intuitive physics and Windows Paint is a dangerous thing.

The top picture attempts to show the effects of recoil at the muzzle in two dimensions, with both lines depicting the combination of muzzle rise and torque caused by the off-axis right barrel.

So, porting on the top of the barrel would, ostensibly, combat muzzle rise. And by moving them to the 10 o'clock position you would combat both muzzle rise and the flip caused by the off-axis barrel.

Of course if two rows of porting on both sides of an O/U are nearly useless one has to wonder just how useless a single row of porting on a SxS would be.
