Howdy,
Gettin' ready to head to NC OB. We're gonna try to make it to the Outer Banks Gun Club for some clay bustin' and general pistol shooting. Anyone here familiar with this club?
Thanks,
Mike

Tell us how it goes. I have relocated to south eastern ( Suffolk)VA, whivh is much closer to the OB than my old NC home. Need a good place to shoot and make friends.

I spent my summers growin up in Nags Head. It is a gorgeous area, I still surf and fish there all the time. I have never gotten to hunt around there but have been fishing down there in the winter and was more amused by all the ducks than the 50 stripers we caught. It is getting too commercial however which is very unfortuinate. I had trouble getting around for all the people down there this summer.

You said that you are only going shooting so you should be fine but as an aside, and I am not sure if it is the OB Gun Club or not, but I know that there is a major, fairly repitable outfiter in Currituck county that has been under a major federal investigation for baiting. I am not trying to hang the innocent here, it might not be them, I do not even know if they do guided hunts or not. I have no idea how many duck outfitters there are down there. This is from a solid source (my father and god father work for game and fish in VA, Dad in Fish, god father in game). Don't be that guy who is hunting over bait when the man pulls up. Even if you are on a guided hunt they will most likely hang you with the rest of em.

Thanks for the good info. I get scared of stuff like that. One of my favorite hunting haunts is a place other hunters bait. It's not why I hunt there, and it doesn't need to be baited. The place is crawling with deer! Some people........
I grew up around Surf City, Topsail Is. area. Between Jacksonville and Wilmington. LOts of surfing and great fishing. I took a road trip up to Hatteras to go surfing for vacation several years ago. I got pounded! So i dragged my stick and drug it and myself back home. I did get a great deal on a spring suit though.

My old friend who taught me how to duck hunt when I was but a "young grasshopper" moved to Wilmington last summer. He gave me a call last night and invited me to hunt with him on the Pamlico sound on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of January. So...without thought my new years plans are set. What a guy huh?

How nice to hear from locals! I have heard of the OBX Gun Club, but have no experience with them. I sent an e-mail to one of their officers last week, but got no reply. I don't believe they do any outfitting though.

Bigco- I've got family in your neck of the woods. . . haven't been down this year, but enjoy the beaches, creeks, etc. especially flounder gigging at night! Also, if your looking for a local range, you might look up the Norfolk County Rifle and Pistol Club. They meet near you in Bowers Hill; have their own range (and have for years), and look for new members all the time. Good people down there.

Cutem- Nothing like surf fishing off Oregon Inlet and Hatteras!

You folks have a good holiday.

Digging up a VERY old post. Just did a search, I'm going to OBX this summer and was wondering if this gun club was still operating? I realize I could just call, they're not open right now...and I wanted some information about what type of club it is and how good the sporting clays course is? Any info is appreciated.
