Been using a hoppes #9 silicone cloth to wipe down the metal on my o/u. Is it advisable to use the same clost the the wood stock and forearm, or is there a chance of damaging the wood.

The wood has a gloss finish.

Thx,

I don't know, but I wipe my guns down with the Birchwood-Casey gun cloth. I'll tell you in a few years.

Silicone shouldn't hurt your stock's finish, but it will make it slick. If you use the silicone cloth to wipe down the wood before putting the gun away, be sure to wipe it off with a dry rag before firing the gun or else your hands could slip on the slick surface. Oil, of course, can make the stock slick also. This is one of the reasons I like to wear gloves while shooting. Gloves greatly increase the resistance to slipping of your hands on the stock.

Silcone is a chemically inert substance. It will not penetrate the varnish on your wood. No problem. This cloth is about as good a fingerprint remover as you can get and will significantly decrease water vapor condensation. It will make for any checkering except hand cut very slippery. Good advice above.

A chemist in the furniture business told m if you use silicone polish etc. on finished wood and ever decide refinish, the silicones will cause the new finish to "fish-eye".
