What kind of horn are the early superposed butt plates made from?

I have no idea but I would imagine they are made from beef horn.

By the way, my Sweet Sixteen has a less then perfect one. If anybody knows where there's a nice Original one that will fit. Let me know

I hear ya, I have seen several on auction sights, some have measurements, some don't. Tough to pay $15-50.00 for something you don't know if it will fit.
