Not sure about SxS for less then $500 but I do alot of squirrel hunting with my Wincheter 9410 lever action 410. Since my gun is only chambered for the 2.5 inch shells I don't have the same selection for hunting that a 3 inch gun would have. For skeet I load a fairly fast 1300fps with 1/2oz #8 shot. For squirrel I have had my best luck with a slower 1100fps with 1/2oz #5. Its tuff to find 410 in #5 so I load my own. If I'm in a pinch I find #6 works well but the #5 seem just as effective with less pellets left in the squirrel. If you shoot much 410 a reloader pays for itself really quick. At $7-9 dollars a box at the store I can reload them for less the $2.50 a box. A hunting buddy of mine has a Remington 1100 in 3inch 410. He likes to shoot 3 inch shell with 11/16 oz of #4. He tried #7.5 when he first got the gun and man did that fill the squirrel full of lead. The same loads should work good on rabbits. For the birds I would try 7.5 or 8 in 2.5 inch shell and maybe as big as 6 with 3 inch shells depending on how open a choke have. Hope that helps.

Years and decades ago, Savage Arms made their M311 SXS in .410. Wasn't too pricey back them, but have no idea of their value as a collector's item. If you look long and hard enough, maybe you should be able to find one in very serviceable condition.
