You can use a smooth bore with an IC tube and regular slugs, or you can use a rifled tube or rifled barrel with sabot slugs. The slugs range are about 100yds, and that can vary more or less with your skill. I always used a 9" paper plate or pie plate as a target as that is about the size of a deers vital area. The more you practice the better you get at those longer shots.

IC is standard nomenclature for Improved cylinder.A sabot slug is usually a pistol bullet, say .45 cal incased in a plastic sabot that is used to impart spin on the bullet as it goes down the much larger rifled shotgun bore.A rifled slug is one that has fins made into the slug to impart some spin for stability through a smooth bore barrel.
