I am new to shotguns. I love the way the o/u looks and feels and everthing. I may change my mind in the future but for now...

I think Over/Unders are the Coolest Shotguns!!!

I thought this was an appropriate statement to make in the "Gun Opinions" forum.

I believe it has been established here that O/U's have a definate "kewel" factor, and I own several, even had that "crave" to have one when I couldn't afford it.

But now, when I need every target within my capabilities, I shoot an auto----my wife shoots the pretty O/U's

Well, as I said the other day, here in Europe the pumps and autoloaders isn't that popular, can't figure out why. On the clay-areenas people are judging hard if you shoot with an semiauto and they are almoast banned.

Just bought a Beretta 686 E sporting, havn't had time yet to do any patterings or at clays, but the incoming weekend I will test it. Seems like a nice gun and the gun seems to suit my shoulder very well.

There are a few benefits with the o/u:
Quick and quiet change of cartridges
Two different chokes in use
Shorter than a semiauto (my 686E with 30" barrels are as long as my fathers beretta 303 with 28" barrels)
Much safer to use (safety placed better, on hunting models usually automatic safety..)

The semiautos and pums benefits:
Lighter weight
Mecanism more suitable and perhaps stronger to use magnum loads

The only disadvantage I can think of with the O/U configuration is that they are hard to load in confined spaces like a duck blind, goose pit or sink box unless you have a side break O/U(they are pretty rare and expensive).

I love O/Us! I've never shot one, but every time I am at the gun store I'm holding one and trying to think of an excuse to get one. Ah heck, I'll just think of a use later!(Runs out door to go to gun shop)

I would agree that o/u's are t3h shyte. You get spoiled on them. I had a Fausti o/u that I liked, but I sold it for a Remy 870, thinking it would be better for a brush gun. I didn't have that 870 long.

A lot of people can say what they want about us being "snobs" for liking doubles, particularly the more expensive ones. A buddy of mine at work thinks the cheapest shotguns and cars are just as good, if not better, than the more expensive ones. Ironically enough, he also shares my love of expensive beer because cheap beer just isn't the same.

Everybody likes something different. Of the shotguns I've handled, I liked the o/u's more than any others. They just felt "right". Feeling right is a good way of making sure it becomes a part of you, which is important for good shooting.

I like o/u's because they feel the most balanced in my hands. I like the fact that all I have to do to look down the barrels is pop the thing open. I like where the safety is (right under my thumb). I feel they're better from a safety standpoint, since it can be hard to tell if a pump or auto is ready to rock or not from a long ways away. I like unloading a break-open A LOT more than I like unloading pumps and autos (unfired shells).

My sweetie prefers sXs over o/u, though she'll take either long before a pump. It's all in what you get used to. I got spoiled on the advantages of the break-opens (doubles and singles), so that's what I prefer.

While I have my preferences, let's just say that scatterguns of any ilk are great. Dusting clays is therapeutic, and dropping hard crossing game birds is satisfying.

I've had six different o/u's, three sxs's, four autoloaders, and two pumps, plus a single shot .410. Loved 'em all, but have parted with two of the o/u's, two of the sxs's and all of the autoloaders. Never know for sure what will come home with me after a trip to the gun store!

Side bys? They still let folks shoot them?? :? I can't imagine why as ugly and awkward as they are. Might as well throw stones!

Yeah they have the SXS's for the real men that need a real gun! Once you get good with your O/U they may seek you out to become one of the Elite shooters, the SXS shooters.

J/K You shoot that is all that I ask, I have no tolerance for a person who cannot safely handle a gun. Chances are everyone will encounter a gun in their life, if taught gun safety they'll know what to do with it.
