Up to now, all I have shot is in the local Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening informal shoots at the local trap club.

May be shooting in my first ATA tournament tomorrow.

Read a lot of discussion concerning the use of various shot sizes for trap shooting, but not sure which discussions concerned just breaking the target and which discussions included knowledge concerning ATA rules.

Are #8½ and #9 shot legal in ATA tournaments ?

Have been playing with them on the first shot on Doubles and at 16 yards.

haven't shot any trap registered in a long time but as far as I know there is no restriction other than 7.5 max allowable.
If you can get 12 shot you could use it as far as I know. Shooters used to use 8.5 and 9 for singles and doubles.

According to this rule, nothing larger than 7 1/2 is allowed. So, smaller shot is OK.
