Ithaca Model 37 and Duck Loads

I am considering a used Mod 37 for waterfowl hunting. I see a lot of 12g. 30" full choke guns out there.

My questions are:

Can the full choke barrel tolerate the non-lead shot?

Should I go with the 28" mod. barrel instead?

I'll take all of the advice you can give.

Thanks.

Some people say you can shoot steel or other non-toxic shot out of the older full barrels but I don't think it's recommended.

The generally thicker full barrels do leave you the option of having choke tubes installed. This runs between $80 and $300 bucks depending on who you use. Check out http://www.trulockchokes.com and see what he can do for you.

If you want to use a fixed choke with non-toxic shot I'd look at no more than mod and would rather see improved as non-toxic shot generally patterns better than lead.
Thanks JLP.

Makes sense. I guess that is one reason why there are so many 30" fixed full bore guns out there for sale. Decent trap guns but no longer a good choice for ducks and geese. They tend to be a lot cheaper than a versatile 28" modified.
