I have inherited a Japanese Citori O/U, 26" 12 ga. in excellent but not pristine condition. The markings are 13648 RTJ53. I gather from the Browning site that this is a 1976 model, but I don't see a "J53" designation anywhere. I'd assume that it is a Grade 1 Hunting, but I'm not sure. Also does anyone have an idea of the Blue Book value on this piece? TIA,

Jack, are you sure it is a "J53"? Doesn't fit the sequences. Perhaps a "153"? That would, of course, make it a Grade 1 Hunting.

Professor MarlendS will soon appear and arrive at a reasonable "Blue Book" price for you. However, it will help him if you could clarify the "J".

Thanks for your quick response. I realize that the "J53" doesn't fit the sequence. Believe me, I tried every way to make that "J" into an "I", but the numbers are crisp and clear, and it clearly says RTJ53. By the way, the barrel is inscribed "special steel 2-3/4" and 3".

It doesn't happen to have a Straight stock and schnabel forend does it?

you might try the Browning Historian if I'm on the wrong track since there are many citori's we have come across here that aren't listed on the date your gun site..
