I just bought my first shotgun. I ended up going with the Franchi 712 over a Browning Gold Hunter. I know I will probably get digitally stoned for that here but it is my first shotgun and I don't know how involved I am really going to get. If I really get into the sport I will be willing to invest more money. It was $499 new compared to the BGH which was $650 used. Any suggestions before I feed it some shot?

I would set it in the light setting and shoot between 100 to 200 heavy field loads to break in the action. After that clean it good and lightly lube with a good quality oil like CLP, FP-10, or Miltec. Let us know how you like it.
Franchi makes some great guns that are some of the best values.
