Alright, that was weird enough that I had to go look for it. They sell two recoil pads, neither of which they make. One is the limbsaver (an excellent pad, worth every cent). The other leather pad is also sold by Cabela's. I cannot remember the specific manufacturer. Regardless, it is not unique to LL Bean. I would never buy from them on principle. Waaay to yuppie.

Not purchase from LL Bean on principle? I'd say that refusing to shop at LL Bean based on their image is downright shallow. If you were boycotting a store on principle you might avoid shopping at a huge chain that drives all the mom and pop stores in a town out of business, and is owned by people so rich that they make the average yuppie look like a medieval serf. *cough Wal Mart cough*

L.L. Bean has been selling sporting goods and hunting gear for a LONG time, have good stuff, good prices, and great customer service. I just ordered some flannel lined jeans for my dad's Christmas present, and they sent the wrong item. They were very easy to deal with for the return -- no hassle at all, no cost to me, and very little effort on my part. I'd definitely buy from them again.

Bingo! I avoid large chains like the plague and shop as locally as possible. And I am more than willing to admit that I don't shop at several "outdoors" stores/chains because of the image they portray (L.L. Bean, Orvis, Eddie Bauer). Sorry to offend, but I just have a way about these things.

LL Bean was started as a hunting business and they carry great quality stuff and they have great customer service. It is sad though that they sell more clothes now then they do hunting and fishing stuff :( .

I went to visit my daughter and it happens that there is a LL Bean store in her NJ area. I dropped in and it appears that they are indeed now selling clothing that bears a label other than LL Bean. Specifically, North Face and Marmot. I would hope they never change their return policy which allows you to return an item at any time you are not satisfied. I returned a sweater after a year and there was no problem.

I know people who ordered from L.L. Bean and were satisfied with the merchandise including one who sent his jacket because the sleeve cuffs were worn and they sent him a new jacket.

Not ordering from a company because of their name is stupid. If their service sucks then let us know about it but don't just smear their name. I'm not into status brands either but I want a quality product. I tired a Limbsaver slip on pad and it worked nicely but I didn't like it's being wobbly and adding length to an already too long of a shotgun. I returned it and will try to get a screw in Limbsaver pad.
