whats the largest animal you can humanely kill with a shotgun ? and what loads would you use and range ?

many of the miners in AK carry 12 or 10 ga with slugs for kodiak protection,thats about as "big" as it gets!!

I use slugs for moose. Knocks em dead. Hits harder then a rifle under 100 yards.

Val Forget used a 4 gauge smooth bore muzzle loader to down all sorts of dangerous game in Africa. Tecnhically it was a shotgun that threw a quarter pound round ball. Killed a big bull elephant stone dead with a single shot.
