I'm working on a 311 and I've already lightly stoned the hammers & sears. It smoothed the pull up considerably, but it's still in the 7 1/2 - 8 lb range. The right side was really bad....stoned a huge burr off the hammer. I would like to get it into the 4 1/2 - 5 lb range. Would cutting a coil off the hammer springs help or is that not advisable?

I agree; never cut mains to reduce trigger pull weight. A clean, crisp break is far more important than a lower pull weight. Sear angle must be changed to reduce the force required to break . The trigger sear points should have a very slight 45 degree relief stoned in to eliminate drag/creep. Pull weight should not be reduced below 5 - 6lbs to insure against doubling.
