Loading Data for WJ2 Wads

This came up in the "Wad Construction" thread, but I thought I would throw it out to the rest of you. Does anyone know where to find reloading recipes using the new yellow 1 oz WJ2 wads? I reload with Clays powder and both Remington STS and Winchester hulls. Thanks!

For the winchester hulls try Hodgdon.

My favorite load, when I can find these wads, is:

Winchester AA Hull
Remington 209P
WJII Wad
1 oz. Magnum 8's
18.1 gr. Clays

I dont know what to tell you about the Remington hulls, I was never able to find any good data.

This is a link to some 1oz loads using the windjammer wads, and remington hulls, W209 primer, and clays powder. Note the load directly above it using the WAA12SL wad uses less powder for the same velocitys.

I wonder how much difference a Claybusters wad (WAA12SL clone) makes in velocity and pressures. :?:

I have loaded 7/8 oz and 1 oz loads with the CB Lightning clone of the Windjammer wad for years and have had good results. The new WJII wad seems to have a slightly different leg section than the original design, so I don't know if the WJ (original) and the new WJII load data is the same. But when looking at the loads from the Hogden website, it says WJ, not WJII. There might not be any difference in loading spec's.

12ga.guy; I have an old copy of the IMR reloading manual, and they listed 1 oz loads for both the WAA12SL and CB clone (pink) using 700X seperatly. Their data showed the CB clone produced lower pressure than the WAA12SL for the same load, (powder,primer,case,etc).

The guys at Windjammer told me it was OK to follow WAA12SL data. I loaded some up and shot them through my chronograph and they were almost right on. They were about 15-20fps slower when compared to the same load with a WAA12SL wad.

It sure would be nice if Lymans came out with a new data manual. With all the components available these days, it would be a great help to us reloaders.

As much as folks hate to admit it, the old standby WW wad is the benchmark for almost all wannabe wads on earth. If you treat them all like you would with a similar load using the appropriate AA wad, you will be fine. Everybody in the business compares their wad to the AA wad. About the only exceptions are with the Federal and clones. They are a little bigger arround than most AAs, a little longer too and most times with heavy or hot loads ought to be cut back a grain or two on powder when used in a Remington STS/Nitro/Gun Club hull or any of the AAs both old or new. Interestingly enough, Windjammers, regardless of who made them, usually have a bigger over powder wad than AA wads but still give similar performance and pressures in AA and Remington hulls. Claybuster makes a special WJ design that is a small base wad especially for AA hulls. I've never needed any of them myself, but they have them just the same. I'd bet if you load them just like you would an AA wad it will be wonderfull too!
