Looking to buy my first shotgun I need some help in the decision. I will be using it mostly for shooting targets on my farm, BLASTING some crows, and some small upland bird hunting. Below are my requirenements:

Low Recoil (Wimpy shoulder) though I'm a big guy 6'7"
Easy breakdown / simple design
Clean operation
Either autoloader or /O/U

Any suggestion. I am currently looking into some browning and the Beretta 391 but not sure. I want a good quality shotgun that will last me my life and built like a tank.

Suggestion?

No reason to spend that much Scott.

Look at the following

Browning Gold
Winchester SX2
Beretta 391
Remington 1100 Synthetic with R3 recoil pad

All of these should be fine

I'd get the Browning

I would not worry about recoil that much. I have a partially torn rotator cuff and I was concerned about recoil too. I bought the basic Beretta 390 with a hard plastic recoil pad. It kicked like a mule. I added a prefit limbsaver recoil pad and shot 125 rounds, and my shoulder felt great. Other shotgunworld members prefer a Pachmeyer (sc?) recoil pad. Buy a nice gun and have fun.

Hey Scott, I just recently dislocated my shoulder this year in football and hunting season wasn't too far away, needless to say i was a little reluctant to start hammering away on the shotgun. I did go out and shoot one day and found out that it really didnt hurt that bad and i was shooting an 870. No matter what autoloader you get, its gonna have less recoil than an 870. If i was in your shoes I'd go with something browning. A Citori or Gold. The Gold fusion is an extremely nice gun, I would definitely go with that if you want a handsome, reliable autoloader. Plus it has the legendary browning name on it, so you know its gonna be a heck of a gun. :)

I'd get the 1100, great knock around farm gun and if you drop it in a mud puddle, no worries. :) Put the extra money into a gun safety course, lotsa shells, and a new pair of Danners boots. Only partially kidding :)

I'd get the 391, they are the best autoloaders on the market PERIOD! My 391 is favorite gun but due my own stupidity it's temporarily out of service

If you are considering an O/U like the Citori don't block out the idea of a "pump". I grew up an a farm, shot a lot of crows and pheasants with my all time favorite Ithaca Mod 37 12 ga. I kept mine strapped to the tractor for "quickie" shoots of opportunity. If your shooting crows 2 shells from an O/U are not enough. My second favorite is my 1100 Rem for this type of shooting, not much recoil and larger shell capacity.
Both are reliable, relatively inexpensive and if you drop it in the mud, thats ok. (I really wouldn't want to drop a Citori in the mud :( )
Just some other options for you. Is this a great web site or what :!: :!: :?:
