i have an M37 that the rear sight is very loose in the dovetail! i tried putting a couple of dimples in it but that didn't seem to hold for very long! i thought about drilling & tapping a hole in the sight & putting a set screw in it to hold it solid against the barrel! anyone ever ran into this?

I would suggest you find a small BRASS rod and lightly tap the edges of the dovetail down very slightly. Just enough to hold the sight in place. This is a very common cure for loose dovetails in addition to putting dimples in the barrel which is less desireable way to fix a simple problem
