First off, a quick link for instant familiarization:

The top two shotguns are the relevant ones. I own the M10A. I would like to construct a 7-shot magazine tube extension, shown here mounted to the M10B:

The magazine extension pictured here, which I suspect would work fine on the M10A as it seems to share the same tube cap, is long out of production.

How would I best go about making one? Does anyone here know if some of the more common tube extensions are likely to work on the M10A?

That's a very interesting prospect I'd considered myself. Getting a polymer sheath made for a modern weapon that has alot of support for it already -- specifically the 11-87. I don't think Remington would build something custom for you.

Mossberg used to have a bullpup (pump action though) shotgun of their own, but it is only being sold now to police officers.

I don't know the legality of such a weapon, but I believe the only restrictions on shotguns are 18 inches in barrel and that it cannot be under 24 inches in overall length. Or something like that. Might want to check the last one. There are, as far as I know, no legal restructions on bullpupping a shotgun or any other weapons of american manufacture. There are bullpup kits for the Mini-14, the 10/22, the Marlin Camp 9s, and the Marlin 60 of all things from muzzlelite. Be interesting to see what those would turn out like with a shotgun instead, though I'd want the rotating yoke of the M10 series instead of a flat buttstock.

Yeah, 26" overall. I hate to say it, but that is one ugly bullpup. Not to get off the subject, but I think from best to worst looking bullpups, I'd go with this list:

Styer AUG (this thing is a piece of modern art - I wish I had one of these.)
M10A (Ah, my precious...)
M10B (though it's a more practical design)
Valmet M76 (10 years too late to get one of these...)
M17S (mini-rant: why in the HECK are our troops not using this when every single modern nation has a bullpup 5.56 rifle? They have a non-bullpup replacement for the M4 slated for 2005! You know, Hilter hated the StG-44 cause he firmly believed bolt actions were the way to go forever in rifles -- and the StG-44's illegitimate offspring was the AK-47. And we all know how popular that gun was for the last 50 years. Thanks for your patience.)
FAMAS french pullpups (bugle!)
XM-series british bullpups (what is with that floating trigger gaurd?)
Any Muzzlelite Bullpups (so afterfactory looking...)
Mossberg Bullpup (Is that a trumpet case?)
SATS G3 conversion (even though you get over 30 cm back, you lose all the looks of the G3. The 20 round magazine becomes the /grip/? What is this, an Uzi on steroids?)

I think my dream bullpup shotgun would basically clone the features and design of the M10B, but use a 7 shot 18 1/2 inch barrel Remington 11-87. It would have a cocking handle that passed through both sides like the M10B and the sheath could optionally slip around a left hand model. That would be great. I do have some contacts with a friend that designs battlebots and he has alot of high-impact polymer and metal machine sponsors. All I really need is to secure a Remington 1187 of the proper stats and take my M10A out so they can do some AutoCAD work on it, and then offer it as an aftermarket option... but I need to get some questions answered on legalities. I suspect there is nothing illegal about the bullpup designs -- it's just one of those 'best kept secrets'. In any event, if this project actually happens, I will /insure/ that it will be compatable with left-handed shotgun models. I don't know how many times my wife has dissed bullpups for that exact reason. I guess some people don't like getting hot brass in their face.
