I have a Merkel Suhl Special gewehraufstahl side by side S*S shotgun #No info about model, about price, about manufacturing date, etc.

Its my dad's old gun and i want to renew it, it has a little bit of pitting inside the barrels to polish it and to re-fix it tightly without any wobblings.

Anyone help to give info about this gun.
And how to renew it. Thanks.

Special Gewehraufstahl typically denotes a Post WWII German offering. The stamp of the mechanic with the hammer & anvil on the exposed lug is that of >>TW<< VEB Fahrzeug- und Jagdwaffenwerk Ernst Thälman and too is Post WWII.

Divorce the tubeset from the frame & post image of the touchmarks. Said touchmarks will reveal the info.

That >>RS<< on top of the tubes more than likely represents Röchlng Stahl.

What do you say to its renewation.
About the pits inside the barrel.
And a bit wobbling .

If the pairing of the tubeset & frame is a little loose, other than shimming w/ a thin piece of Brass, the only way to resolve that is to have a new hinge-pin installed.

You could hone the tubes to minimize the depths of the pitting, but more than likely you are in a better position just to clean it with a Bronze brush and a drill or similar. With the cleaning rod attached to the drill, just move it slowly up & down the barrel to dislodge the rust. Anything more will require removal of the barrel metal & could make the barrel walls thin???

It matters if you value your fingers & hands. In a worst case scenario where the walls are thinned to or past a minimum thickness, the pressure of the cartridge will compromise the thickness of the steel tube resulting in a loss of digits. But, typically with German steel tubes, they are quite robust. Too, we don't have any data as to how deep the pitting might be and the thickness of the tubes. Just don't hone them down to a bare minimum trying to remove all the pitting. It is much better to have light pitting that a lack of fingers. As I stated prior, probably better to full clean with a Bronze brush in a somewhat high cyclic rate.
