I AM CONSDIERING BUYING A MCGREGOR AND CO LONDON 10 ***** SIDELOCK. IT HAS 41.5 INCH BARRELS AND A 58 INCH OVERALL LENGTH. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS GUN AND RELATIVE VALUE? IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE A PRE-1899 MANUFACTURE.

THANK YOU

You will need to give more information. What are the proof marks, is this a breach loader, hammers? I doubt that if it has 41.5" barrels that it's a 10 gauge, normal would be around 32". There was a gunmaker named McGregor in Scotland but without more info it's impossible to tell you much.

When and if you get to the value part someone would have to know if the gun is solid rust or brand new, or somewhere in between, it makes a difference.

PS: Loose the cap-locks.

I think the info I gave to be accurate (I lost the caps by the way) and unfortunately, I do not have gun in hand. Seller lives some distance away. I looked under the blue book web-page but this maker was not on the list. I am as interested in researching the maker as much as the gun and also in finding some way to do so? I.E., where do I go to find out more? I hope this webpage link will get you to this unusual gun I have described. Thank you for your response.

I would ask for a copy of all the marking on the bottom of the gun. Looks like a single-barrel punt gun. Seller says he knows nothing about guns but then goes on to describe a file cut rib. My advice is to get a lot more info or pass.
