I'm curious about the age of a couple old shotguns I have.

The first is a 12 ga. model 1897 Winchester; two serial numbers, E 537144 and 539307. The second is on the barrel.

The second is a 12 ga, single shot, exposed hammer Riverside Arms. I guess that was made by Stevens. Unfortunately no serial number. It does have some writing on the upper barrel, "high pressure compressed steel" and "barrel and lug forged in one piece".
Any help appreciated

The '97 should be 1913.

the Riverside Arms is tougher, since Riverside was a trade name used by Stevens, and as you appearantly know, Stevens didn't serialize nuthin until it had to basically. Best I can tell the Riverside brand name was used from about 1912 to 1932
