Great site.

Family and myself new to clay sports. We normally shoot pistols and rifles. At our local gun club's Youth Hunter Education Challenge my daughter shot trap. I purchased a used Ithaca 300 for her. My questions is I have a new Mossberg 500 given to me from my late farther inlaw's estate. It has a smooth bore, beaded, 30" barrlel. If I wanted to use this gun until I can decide what direction I want to go what barrel would you guys recommend? I am looking at a Ventilated Rib barrel with an Accu II choke. The are available in 20" 24" and 26". Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Actually the 30" should be just fine. Most of the trap shooters around here use 30" or longer and full choke, I personally use a mod. in my 500.
IMHO the 26" gets my vote because I like the way a shorter barrel swings but most of the trap and clays shooters will probably recomend a 28".or longer barrel.

I wouldn't recomend anything shorter than 26".
I see you didn't list the 28" barrel but it is also available (with choke tubes).

Good luck and have fun shooting with your family

Thanks,

The 26" was a typo. They offered the 28" with chokes.
However, I found a used (Like new)500 w/ 28" ported barrel today at a local gunshop. I purchased it for a little more than it would have cost me to buy the barrel and have it shipped.

We are heading to the range tomorrow.

Thanks again.
