I found a Mossberg 5500 syn stocked at the gun shop and I am wondering what its value is. Also, does anyone know how good these guns are?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Jonathan, do you have or can you get any more info on it? here's the basic one but there's a small array of variations...

- 12 ga., 2¾ or 3 in. mag., gas operated, 18½ - 30 in. barrels. Disc. 1985.
Grading 100% 98% 95% 90% 80% 70% 60%
$250 $235 $205 $185 $170 $155 $140

Last MSR was $307.
Add $20 for VR.

I do not have that info infront of me, though I might go back to the gun shop and look. I fould a Mossberg 9200 for sale as well, and do you know which of these is better? The are both approx. the same price. This would be my first semi-auto shotgun and I will be using it for skeet. Thanks for your help!!

I posted my experiences with the 5500 on the Shotgun-General thread. My experience with my 5500 did not give me confidence in the 9200. An aquaintance who was a sales rep for Mossberg had a 9200 for about a month. All he would tell me is he didn't like it and sent it back for an 835. I only saw the green synthetic models as demos and I did not like the looks of them at all. I thought the action and trigger needed a lot of polishing as they were very rough and one could see metal shavings after a few rounds. It is what I would expect from a gun at this price ($275-300 new a decade ago) but for a little more, one could buy a much better gun.
