Can't tell you about the Savage. I have a 695 with a 3X9X40mm Nikon. It's a very good shooter and groups good with the Remington Core-Lokt sabot slugs. The trigger is on the heavy side but, breaks pretty clean. The stock is OK. I would prefer a stiffer stock with a bigger grip area. For the price I'm happy with how it shoots. It cost about the same as a slug barrel. So I have a dedicated slug gun that is more than likely more accurate than switching barrels on another gun.
