One more thing... If this choke is in fact removable - how do you get it off? It's got little "ribs" that look like they are meant to help you get a grip to spin it off - but it won't budge w/ my hands only.

but it appears that full is the only choke available. And yes, it is factory. You might be able to get a couple of more tubes and send them to be expanded...

the choke probably just needs soaked good with solvent to loosen it up, probably been there since the '40's

 

Thanks MarlandS - I appreciate the link. I'll see about getting another choke or two. I'm wanting to clean this thing up and begin using it - just because it was my grandfathers and I have fond memories of lugging this thing around clearing brush with it! ;-)

I have this exact same shot gun also. but I am missing the Red and Green Safety/Fire tags.

I have a few of my own questions, first I was wondering what the value of one of these shotguns are? ( I am wanting to insure it. It was my dads, and then I got it, and I plan on passing it to my son. ) Next, about roughly how old are these shotguns? I know my dad says its over 50yrs old, but he said it was used when he got it, so I would like to know roughly how much older they are.

I have this same gun I bought from a coworker.
After doing research on the gun I found out they where made in 1947 & 1948, They came with a full & modified chokes and a "S" shaped choke wrench. Mine still had the full choke with it and I wanted the modified & wrench that came with it. So I went to Numrich Gun Parts: Firearm Parts & Accessories. They Had both pats I was looking for and also had the Red & Green Fire & Safety plugs as mine was missing the Green one so I ordered both and a couple of extra parts as well. They all came in and where in pretty good shape! I have redone the gun and if I say so myself it looks and functions great. These Guns aren't worth a lot only around $125.00 to $200.00 in very mint A-1 condition but they are great little shooters and fun to use for small game & such. I also put a Cheap Red/Green Dot scope on it only because someone in the passed had drilled and tapped it for a scope and had done a pretty bad job of it. Long and short of it is fix Your gun back to as close as the original as you can and then use it and have fun! If you have children take them out with it and teach them the right way to use it always remembering safety 1st and knowing you are giving them something that will last and lifetime full of wonderful memories and a love for shooting. "Teach them well and let them lead the way!"
