I had a shorthair that took a nasty fall into a hole once and came up out of it fine only to sit down 25 yards away and not want to move. I ended up carrying him out of the field and to the vet. I rubbed him down and he didn't really show any signs of being hurt. The vet couldn't find anything external and shot some x-rays. He found a hairline fracture in one of his ribs.
4 weeks of rest and observation and then back for more x-rays and he was back to normal. It's something that is very easy to miss on a dog.
