I am fairly certain that I read somewhere (years ago now) that somebody checked with the library that stores all documents siezed after the fall of the Third Reich - maybe even the Library of Congress I don't know - and discovered that the guys who framed the Gun Control Act of 1968, had actually signed in to view the archive copy of the Nazi firearms law in question.

Of course they deny it - I mean who wants to be tarred with the brush that you got ideas for legislation from the NSDAP, but if it is true, it's pretty scary. One wonders what other inspirations the lawmakers might have drawn from those archives?
