Marlands-
I have read your knowlegable replies to other's emails, and was hoping you could help me.

About 30 years ago, my best friend and I both hunted side by sides, he used a field grade Ithaca, 20 ga, IC/M.

Perhaps in an effort to recapture my (lost?) youth, I am looking for a similar gun.

Recently I saw an Ithaca 20 'Flues' for sale for about $1500. I am not familiar with that designation. The picture of the gun, while poor, indicted a double trigger, and heavy scrolling.

Where can I find out more about the 'Flues' line, and value? I am sorry I do not have more information ie (grade, barrel-lenght etc), but the advertisment either assumed I knew a lot about the gun, or was just too brief.

Thanks for your time.

the Flues ran from 1908 to 1926, the one listed sounds like a higher grade especially if they are asking that much.

to draw that much, assuming it's a grade 1, it would have to be nearly perfect I believe.

Were I you, I'd go read some of the Flues threads at http://www.***********/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi the guys that hang out there play with higher end doubles all the time.

Another option would be to go to these three sites : www.gunbroker.com www.gunsamerica.com and ww.auctionarms.com just put Flues in the search box be sure to distinguish between guns for sale and those that are selling or have sold.

hope this helps somewhat

The price of a gun is whatever you can get for but I recently passed on a 20ga. Flues (Grade 4) because the price was wildely inflated. He wanted $1400. Flues, though my favorite field gun, are simply not worth much to collectors (too many made) and non reloading shooters shy away because of short chambers and a reputation for cracking when used with modern ammunition. If you're looking for a shooter, either a Field or Grade 1 can usually be found for less than $500 (20ga.) Low pressure ammunition only, please.

I wish you luck in your search. Keep looking-their out there.

P.S.: There are two good threads running on Gunshop about Flues now. Pay particular attention to posts from Greg Tag
