Getting the extra training is a darn good idea, BUT you can't schedule an emergency. If your class is next week and the creeps come this week, they aren't going to let you reschedule.

Take a few minutes as soon as you can, preferrably yesterday, lay out a plan for you and your loved ones living with you. Practice that plan. You won't be perfectly prepared but you will be more prepared than now. Use every opportinity to shoot that gun. Load it, unload it a million times then do it until you can do it in your sleep. Sound stupid? It is, until Johnny-Bad_Guy comes knocking. At that moment, all the people that called you stupid will be glad you were.

This is excellent advice. How many are in your home? Kids? Home layout? Got a cell phone? All these things you need to think about to prepare for the worst.

No personal experience with either, however, I don't hear the best things about FrontSight.

As for ThunderRanch, they have moved up here to the great northwest. I'm still meaning to take some of their classes, but Old_Painless has IIRC and I've never read such glowing reviews of a training course. On my current list is their Pistol Course, Carbine 1, Shotgun 1, and hopefully their team tactics course.

Yep, I've been to TR 4 times, Defensive Pistol 1 & 2, Urban Rilfe, and Defensive Shotgun.

Clint and Hiedi are just great folks. The training is extremely well-done, and I am a "ringer", as I was a Training Manager for most of my career and know the difference between good and bad training.

But it's not cheap.

Learn to put it COM while you're moving (that will decrease the odds of it penetrating walls).
can you elaborate please?

Thanks
The more you train and the more difficult your training is the more likely you are going to be to put rounds in the middle of the bad guy's torso. Bad guys are very effective at slowing down rounds that hit them thus decreasing the round's ability to penetrate a wall.

Hey ClayCrusher,
There is an outfit in Albemarle, Defensive Concepts. They offer training in rifle, handgun, shotgun and hand to hand.

They should be able to help you out. Web site link: http://www.defensiveconceptsnc.com/

In the mean time, get out and practice (safely) with what you have. Buy some buckshot. Practice more.

Don't put it off.
