Hi,
OK, so no one could give me a good reason not to buy a Hatsan Escort, I went and bought one for research purposes. I figured that this forum might appreciate an evaluation of this Turkish gun. I do not intend to use the gun heavily for target games. It will see use as a field gun in the duck blind and goose pit with some service as a loaner. So round count will be limited to well under a 1000 rounds per year.
I found the gun on sale, so that was a factor in the purchase. It cost me $381 OTD, so it was about $75 under normal cost. I still can't find my camera, so I used a tablet to take these pictures.

The gun is a gas operated auto. And seems to be decently fit and finished for a plastic gun, not Beretta level perhaps but still good. It is pretty light, my scale says barely 7-1/4lbs. Mine came with 3 Mobile chokes, IC, Mod, and Full. The Full is marked for lead only. No loss as I probably will never use it. An after market extended Modified choke will most likely be purchased at some point.
It came with a stock shim set, three for drop and one for cast. And since I had the gun disassembled for cleaning, I installed the cast shim for cast on as I'm a lefty and elected to not use the shims for drop. Speaking of initial cleaning, the gun was remarkably clean and properly lubed to start with. Still, a through inspection is always good. I anticipate no problems with shooting it as long as it doesn't break parts.
It also came with a choke wrench, spare O-ring, extra plug for magazine, and a 5 year warranty.
It has no break-in procedure, (I have never owned an auto before), so I'm not sure how to go about it. I will try some 1-1/8oz loads tomorrow morning while dog training.
One thing I need to study on is if I can reverse the cross bolt safety. That would make it much easier for me to use as a lefty. I think it can be done. It appears that pressing out 2 pins should remove the trigger group for work. I think a call to the service center may be in order.
Overall, I'm pleased with purchase so far. But I still have yet to fire the gun, hopefully tomorrow.
