I'm about to make a several week long trek up through north Georgia, North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. I'd like to try and hit some new sporting clays course, but there's just not much up that way (at least according to Google). I'm familiar with Nantootla in Blue Ridge. I've heard of Flower Farms in Hot Springs, NC. And I was able to find some place called Shadowbrook in Weaverville, NC. But that's about it if I want to stay generally in the mountain area of those 3 states. Definitely don't want to get past Asheville-east.

How about some places that maybe are a little less known (or less likely to show up on Google)? Of the places listed above, are they worth it in terms of having good targets? I don't want to travel somewhere out of the way only to shoot fluffy targets.

Might be a little out of the area but in Northeast GA there is Elbert County gun club. They have 2 courses, a red and a green course.

The red course is set up harder and some shots are taken in a rock quarry. Some are very long incoming, you have falling & rising targets. Its has anything that you might want. You do not have to shoot the posted targets as on several stations there are more machines than what is posted. The machines are numbered on the buttons. These are generally the harder ones.

Check out the Cleghorn Gun Club in Rutherfordton, NC. It is a little east of Asheville, but worth the trip. It has been a while since I was last there, but they have a very nice sporting clays course with 4 traps per station set up so you can shoot different levels of difficulty. The last time I was there the more difficult course was set up with some pretty challenging targets.

Depending on when you are in the mountains of NC there is also the Ashe County Wildlife Club. They are having a NSCA shoot in late June. They also open the sporting clays course at least twice a month to members. Not sure how it works for non-members, but may be worth contacting them to see if you could shoot there. They usually have some tricky targets.

I've been to Flower Farms, but it has been 3 or 4 years ago. It is a pretty nice little course, but somewhat difficult to get to. About 3/4 of it is in the woods, so not a bad place to shoot on a hot day.

I would second the Elbert Co. gun club and Cleghorn recommendations. Elbert Co. is open to the public on the weekends only (I think) but it would be best to verify with a phone call. As mentioned above, some truly unique stations set up around the rock quarries. Not sure how deep into Ga you are going but Old Hudson is another good club.
