i have a nr davis & sons double. it has ajax stamped under that, then davis warner arms.#b4152.it's in 12 ***** and it's fairly tight. can anyone tell me when it was made and if it is safe to shoot modern ammo in it. thanks!
N R Davis became Davis Warner in 1917 which became Crescent Davis in 1930 or 32. It would have been intended for smokeless powder, but that doesn't automatically mean it is still safe. You need to have it examined by a competent gunsmith, and even if he says it's OK, I'd recommend staying with light loads.
