I have been in the market for a used 1187 and a local gun dealer is trying to persuade me to buy a Baikal. It would be nice to get a new gun, but I don't want to buy something I won't be happy with. Any opinions on this gun?

I have personally seen more problems with the 11-87's than I have with any other gun in my life. The Baikal, Berreta, and the Bennelli are exelent choices. The Baikal is made in Russia and has been around for many years. Only just recently imported to the US. MP153 come in synthetic and wood stock. I personaly like synthetic because my guns get used and are not for show. The only thing I think could be better on MP's is the fact that edges are a little sharp. It perforumes as well as Berretta's and Bennelli's. I hope I'm not too late with this info.

I currently own a Baikal MP153. My gun is definitely more reliable operation wise than the 1187 Express shotguns a few of my friends own and hunt with. The visual finish on these two shotguns is pretty much a tossup. A sure fact is the MP153 doesn't rust as quickly as the 1187 Express when they get wet from hunting. For my money I would go with the Baikal MP153 regarding these two model autoloaders.
