Optimal time of day to shoot

As events start to appear on the calendar and I begin to register for 2023, in trying to schedule squad/rotation times I had a thought of what time of day would be the "best" to chose from the available slots.

Obviously details like are you in the woods vs open terrain, are all stations facing north vs west, time of year etc..., will affect the answer but all else being equal is there a rule of thumb as to best time for target reflection or visibility?
As a new sporting competitor, other details regarding time of day I don't know about?

Not in my opinion.

It will be random. You can't undo this.

That's what I figured, but for curiosity's sake I thought I'd ask.
Summer - Early, beat the heat. Sun on the horizon is usually not a problem. And if you don't stay for shoot-offs, you can shoot-and-scoot. If you stay for shoot-offs, it makes for a long day.

Winter - Later in day after it warms and sun has risen a bit.
I would think if there was any difference in visibility due to sun, various color glasses would help make up any difference. Just conjecture, however.
Morning after a good night sleep.

Optimal, when you can get to the range.
Not optimal, is when you can't, but wish you had.:)

Absolutely there is. But, you have to be very familiar with the course and their stations. I know at my local clubs where they set FITASC, ETC. what time and if European rotation what station to start on. But at big shoots and unfamiliar courses it's luck of the draw. Most of the time target setters are somewhat cognizant of the targets they set. I wouldn't stress too much over it. Steve

My preference is when the sun is over head. But you don't always get what you want. Also here in the Gulf coast , it rains many afternoons. So we end up going in the morning to beat the rain. Of course, this is iffy ,too.

I'd say you have to evaluate the area you shoot in for starters. I've only shot in the Northeast. My 67 yr old eyes don"t like 8 oclock starts in the woods or cloudy mornings. I've also seen heavy fog at a morning rotations. But it's usually less windy at these times. We don't get the excessive heat or sun midday like down south or the desert. If I'm shooting side events I tend to schedule them first and use them for warm up to main event.

1) personal schedule/clock, especially if traveling from coast to coast. Practicing at noon in CA and signing for 8am in NJ is not optimal.
2) summer vs winter sun. Sun is the only thing - should be high enough
I like shooting winter mornings...but I am weird
Given my advanced age, time of day is an important factor. My energy level is at peak mid-morning... by afternoon it's at low ebb.

Studies have shown that the optimal time to shoot is 11:37am to 12:22pm Central Time. That’s the only time I shoot and never miss.

My best time to shoot is whenever I get to the club. Never had a bad day shooting.

After coffee but before beer. That's my best time to shoot.

For me it could be a blood sugar cause as well.
