The location I shoot has a sun problem from mid-morning to late afternoon. I try to shoot early, 8 am to 10 am, or late 3 pm to 5 pm. However, many times it's not possible for a registered shoot. It's the luck of the draw. It affects the 5-stand and 4 or 5 of the 16 stations on the course. You just have to live with it.

The club where I shoot the most is heavily wooded so early morning on the west side stands sucks do to a lack of light and shadows. For NSCA shoots there we are very particular where we start and skip certain stands till the light evens out and it works out great. Shot a event there 2 Wed's ago and didnt follow this. Shot the Super Sporting first which is on the blue course and it was a huge mistake, I really messed up that portion of the shoot by doing so, finishing last in my class. I thought it just might be me and the day but won the other 2 events in my class so time of day means a bunch..... To me at least.

I like to start as close to noon as possible. When the sun is high in the sky it reduces shadows and makes it more difficult to get a good focus on a target while staring into the blazing sun. I've learned I can still easily break the occasional high target that gets in front of the sun near my break point because I have already had a good focus on the target to establish a good swing along it's flight path. However, the targets seem much more difficult to break if it's in the sun when launched then later enters the clear.
