For those of you that feel the need to touch and feel a $400 sweater or $75 pair of gloves (I swear they were made of butter- but $75 no way) there is an Orvis store located in the ring of stores around the Yorktown Mall off of Highland Ave and I-88. All kidding aside beautiful stuff and if a fly fisherman - they have darn near everything you would need.

I like Orvis as a company and I order from the catalog. However, that Yorktown Mall store has next to nothing for us hunters and only a taste for us fly fishermen.
I was thrilled when I heard the store was going in there. The first visit was nice and there was a decent mix of outdoor gear, home items and casual clothing. I bought a hunting jacket and a bunch of dry flies. I returned recently and I was very disappointed by the lack of outdoor gear. What happened to the hunting clothing & gear? Most of the fishing gear & flies? They cut waaay back on hunting & fishing. I am used to the fact that hunters and fishermen alone can't support a store in the Chicago area, but come on folks...give us sportsmen something from the catalog! Maybe it is just me, but that Orvis store is boring unless you are a soccermom buying a blanket or skirt to look outdoorsy. Yes, I said..outdoorsy.

Can't argue with the above comments, but Orvis is not for everyone... As their shooting sports specialist, I struggle with our "assortment" every season... Orvis' "hunting" season is approx. 3 months long and yet we shoot clays 12 months a year... BUT we're not a sporting goods store... still, I'm working on it.

Jay, I was surprised when your post popped up on this thread.
Sorry to have been so harsh on your store, but I honestly felt pretty disappointed when I returned later and it was primarily a home store. I am a shooting & fly fishing customer, and so is my wife. The wife is a home product customer, too. Certainly, you know about all the trap, skeet & sporting club members in the area because you probably belong to one or even several. I really do appreciate your company and products, but please keep corporate aware of us shooters & fly fishermen. We lurk even in suburban and metro areas.
