I think your posts are great!
As for why the Military and LE don't use the rounds, simple as $$$. I do know that some use the door buster rounds and most use the rubber rounds. But as you pointed out the point is to stop the threat, and a regular slug will do that so they do not need the super destructo slug. As an average citizen I feel as my lawyer, a dead man can not witness against you. Now I would not sit in court and say I killed him, I would honestly say I stoped the threat the best I could.
Here is what I mean:
A man busts into my house and he has a knife. I confront him and he jumps towards me, I shoot. Now lets look at 2 of the ways this could go. 1) I kill him and I say exactly how it went down. The officers on the scene agree, CSI looks around and agrees, the DA says ok it was defense. 2) Jackass lives and runs through my house bleeding on his way out. I call the cops he heads to the hospital. I tell it like it is, he say he never moved in my direction and I called him bad names and became violent . At this point all angles have to be looked at and I become a suspect because of rules. It is the nature of the way we live. This jerk just put a spin on things and the cops and DA have to listen to him because it is the rules, often within the criminal justice system if you say it enough it becomes true. The less I have some criminal telling the DA and judge I was wrong the better.
My lawyer points this out because I pay him to look out for me. I do not pay him to do what is right, just or fair. Any lawyer that puts the idea of fair above his client is not a good lawyer. Life and law are not fair, it it was we wouldn't need the scum ball lawyers.

Gordonsetter,
Fortunately forensics can work for you when you're "right", as well as against you when you're "wrong"... I live in Virginia, so the fact that someone is in my home uninvited tends to lean the entire situation in my favor from the start. We probably have entirely different frames of reference, including the exotic ammo issue. These posts are like a potluck. We all bring something to the table and people take away what they want.

My opinion is know your back stop and have a good plan that the whole family knows and understands. My family lives in a rather small dwelling. Its a 4 bedroom place contain 2 brothers, my mother, the mrs. and me. This does pose a big problem but i do know i always have to directions that are safe to shoot in.
Home defense shouldnt be done without thought. You should be ready should the need arise. You should be practiced in case it does. However you should pray to god that it doesnt!

hello i just wanted to put in my 2 cents. ive been involved in a self defence shooting where i shot an attacker. the guy i shot was on methamphetamine. i shot him with a 16 gauge shotgun. the # 1buckshot load in the 16 gauge really cleaned his plow he was about 40 yards away. after he was hit he dropped his gun and fell face first. the thing i wanted to emphasise is in my state if you shoot more than once it is considered malice. good thing i had witnesses they wanted to give me 15 years in prison. it was the hardest thing i ever went through in my life. if you shoot you have to prove you had no other means of escape even in your house. deadly force has to be justified. best to kill attaker outright. hope none of you experience this very traumatic. be careful . dont hesitate on crazies!!!!

Here's what I think.
I think that if I'm protecting myself and family I want the intruder dead. I don't want him getting out of jail on good behavior and come looking for me.
I have "00" in my gun.

if your going to make the plan and be prepared, decide on 4 or 5 loads, then take them out and shoot them, both at targets for pattern and sheetrock for penetration. do this at ranges you would find in your home. when i lived in a small apartment i kept 2 rounds of the Fiocci rubber OO buck, then one each of Remington OO buck and 1 oz slug.
