Seems that the bean counters at Peta know where to put their money, even if it goes against the general principils of the organization.

The Mission Statement: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with more than 750,000 members, is the largest animal rights organization in the world. Founded in 1980, PETA is dedicated to establishing and protecting the rights of all animals. PETA operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment

From the last NAHC Weekly News:

According to a recent report from CNN, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) is set to acquire stock in Outback Steakhouse and casual dining chain Applebee's.

The anti-hunting organization already currently owns shares of the Denny's chain of restaurants and Chili's parent Brinker International, as well as stock in Hormel Foods, Tyson Foods and Pilgrim's Pride.

You hit the nail on the head there but add this to that : as long as the stock is doing well, it bolsters their budget. Nothing like these companies helping to fund the people who would put them down.
Hold your friends close. Hold your enemies closer.

That's why they buy the shares, but, they do it so that they can change the way the cattle are treated for that resturant.
