Can you pls tell me what a gun dealer would do (cosmetically) to prep a gun for sale? I'm talking about a gun that's been well maintained but used.

For instance, what would one apply to the wood to get that "new" shiny look?

How about the barrels, receiver...?

Thanks!

That would turn me off in a heartbeat! I want to see them in there everyday clothes. Run a brush and a patch down the barrel, and wipe them down with an oily rag and call it good. Making something look "glossy" all over is just NOT my style!

I'm sorry guys, I should have been clearer. Basically I'm trying to take pictures to list 2 guns for sale. They're decent guns that would fetch close to $4K total, a Winchester 101 and a Beretta O/U. They've hardly been used; the metal looks fine and I've always kept them super clean. It's mostly the stocks that I've never done anything to but oil lightly. I was just wondering if people do anything special to the stock and receivers before they take these great pictures that you see on some of the auction sites.

Thx again.

I wouldnt worry about "dressing up" your gun. Just use a quality camera with a decent pixel rate and post. If there are any scratches dont try to hide them, be honest, and you'll get honest bids. Nothing urks me more than the sellers that link to a simuliar gun, not the one their selling. I want to see the wood grain, metal to wood fit and condition of the gun Im buying, not a replica.
