Price of Lead

Talking with a friend tonight who is a upper level manager in retail. Made a comment about the price of shot and that I heard China is buying it all up, and he said that China has shut down production due to the olympics, and wanting less pollution for the games. I was like, huh?

A quick search found this....http://en.beijing2008.cn/bocog/bocognew ... 5121.shtml
Beijing 2008 impressive in terms of the greening of the games

"To tackle air pollution, Beijing has encouraged the use of energy-friendly resources, e.g., natural gas, instead of coal, and has also closed or relocated major polluting industries."

China is doing amazing things so as to impress the world in 2008. Much like Germany did for the 1936 Olympics, and probably for the same reasons.

MY LME metals guru states that the 2008 metal price has been fixed for lead at $3480/tonne. This equates to about $1.50 spot and upper thirties per shot bag. And that is that for a year. Down from the historic high but no low enough.
The triumpherate of ecological pressure and economic pressure and political pressure has doomed lead. The loss of lead will not doom the shooting sports. But it will change it some.

"The triumpherate"

Golly FN the term "tits up" is not one I have heard used outside of pilot circles for a very long time.

My point being, too many forces conspire against it to allow lead to continue as a common substance for projectiles. My opinion is for better or for worse the shooting industry is on the cusp of offering an economical alternative. They have to if they wish to continue as a business the way I see it.

Unfortunately Mike I think your correct. The legislation on the left coast is just the tip of the iceberg concerning the shooting sports.
