Can someone copy and paste the publised data for Tightgroup in the 12 gauge. I have read that 16 grains is called for, I do not have the hull, primer & wad. I looked for the data and did not find it.

OK, here's a quick tour:

Open site: Hodgdon Landing | Hodgdon

Click Shotgun icon

Select the shell gauge and type from the Step 1 and 2 pull-down menus. Yeah, you gotta identify the "hull" you will be loading.

Select the Payload type - you probably want to use lead shot from Step 3

Select the shot weight from Step 4 (those are in ounces)

(Optional) If you want to narrow down the powder list you can pick a Manufacturer, but the lookup still works if you don't know that Titegroup is a Hodgdon brand. Step 5, or skip Step 5

Step 6- chose Titegroup as the powder.

Click Update Data button and you should see the Titegroup loads for the selections you have made.

For example, there's at least 75 loads published for 12 Gauge Remington STS shells, with 1 ounce of lead shot and Titegroup powder. To show all the 12 gauge loads would be hundreds of loads, maybe even thousands.

If you are loading some low volume or hunting shell, then there is a good chance you won't find it among the choices of the Shell Type list. That is what most commonly makes it hard to find a load for, say, a Win-eral Super Duper Magnum 3.5" hull you might find in a goose pit. Only the common hulls get the efforts needed to research and test loads for publishing. So, pick a commonly available hull early, and you won't have to scramble to find loading data that works for a non-common hull.

good luck, garrisonjoe

You have to really work through their hull selection, as there will be multiple names of the same hull(hint they are different gauges). I wish hodgdon would figure out how to eliminate all the hull choices that aren’t for that gauge once you select the gauge. It’s a real pain to sort out.

Got some Titegroup because all of my favorites were not available. Found the data for shotshell loads
and have been using it. Clay Dot and Promo were my favorites. Titegroup is dense so you have lots of room
for your prospective load. It is quite clean burning not that it matters that much in an Over/Under. Good
cold weather performance. Very pleased with TG so don't be hesitant to use it.

I load titegroup and like it. One thing I’ve noticed with titegroup that I haven’t noticed with any other powders is it tends to compact in the bottle as you load from vibration. Make sure you weigh powder charges often. If I start with an empty bottle and weigh a dropped charge then weigh again after 50 or more loads the dropped charge has increased up to .8 of a grain. Don’t know if it’s right or wrong but I now tap the side of my bottle several times after I fill it to simulate the vibration from the loading process to hep the powder settle in.

The array of hulls Hodgdon lists is terribly confusing to me as a newbie. Due to erratic availability of factory loads and high prices, I've got quite a variety of shot hulls available. I think I'm going to pick Win AAs, as that's what came with the reloader I just bought, so maybe it's already set up for them. But at some point, I'm going to need Hodgdon's help with other hulls and it's a struggle to know what to select.

Remington STS is listed in 4 different places, not including the multiple bismuth options. Win AA has at least 2 choices. Fiocchi has multiple listings, but which one is the 'bargain' Shooting Dynamics hulls I bought in abundance? The worst is the Federal listing. I've got a box full of Top Gun hulls from the Wally World 4 packs, and it's unclear to me which option to choose for them, as they're not listed.

Can someone clarify what lines to select for the recently available 2 3/4" store bought Win AA, Remington Gun Club, Federal Top Gun, and Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics hulls? Thanks for sharing your expertise.

Current Win AA hulls - use the published name of "Winchester AA HS" name. Hodgdon makes the assumption that the older Win AA Compression Formed (CF) hulls are exactly the same internal capacity as the Winchester AA HS hulls, but in many loads, the two hulls don't quite load and crimp the same. But you probably don't have a lot of the Compression Formed hulls, as they were last made about 12 years ago or so. So let other folks load any CF hulls you find.

Current Remington target loads all are STS Premier hulls, so that's the name for them. That includes STS, Gold Nitro, Gun Club, American Clay and Field, and Shurshot green hulls. Remington field or waterfowl loads probably use a game hull that won't be listed by lots of data publications.

Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics are "straight wall European" hull design, so pick whatever PLASTIC European hull shows in the load data, such as Cheddite, Nobel, Fiocchi, B&P and you will get very close to a good load.

Federal Top Gun hulls are a slightly different design, but somewhat close to, the Federal Gold Medal hull. Do a search for Top Gun hull articles on here, and you will find a couple of wads that are working well to load those Top Guns, with flake type powder such as 700X, Red Dot, Clay Dot or Green Dot. Save those TGs for later when you get some experience with easier loading hulls.

Yes, understanding what hulls you can get good data for, and which ones you will hunt long and hard to find load data for, is the major stumbling block for lots of beginning shotshell loaders.

Hodgdon used to have data directly on the webpage for each powder. It was very easy to use if you already knew what powder you had. For some reason they got rid of those pages, or at least I couldn't find them. Probably two different databases and they didn't want to maintain them both.

TG is a very dense powder. I have been using it for 1 oz 12-gauge loads. Wad selection is very important. Because of stack height issues (dishing) I don't use the CB1100 wad for 1 ounce loads. I find the gray 7/8ths wad works better with 1-ounce loads in Remington hulls. My best load is a Remington GC hull, 17.8 grains TG, CB 0178-12 wad, Win 209 and 1 ounce of shot.

Thanks guys. Now if I can just figure out which of the several Hodgdon Rem STS and Win AA menu items to use, I'll be set. I may have to pick each one and see if there are any differences between them. Maybe they're the same data.

For what type of loads? Lead shot is found in the hull with the most general hull name.

For Remington STS, for example, use the one that is not labeled (BISMUTH) . If you were WANTING to load Bismuth, then chose the STS hull with BISMUTH in it's name.

If you test selecting the general STS, you see the load type has these possible picks for step 3:
Lead Buckshot, Lead Shot, Lead Slugs, and Steel

But if you pick hull type STS with Bismuth, the possible picks of load type in step 3 are limited to just:
Bismuth Shot

Just keep picking them until you get the one with data. As long as you are using/selecting lead shot data the data is good. All Rem target hulls are internally the same (STS, gun club, clay&field, game load). All Win target hulls are internally the same (AAhs, super target and I believe universals although I have not loaded them to verify). And Win and Rem target hulls are the same aside from some length differences that will change your crimps.

Although I don't intentionally load Rem and Win hulls at the same time, because of the length difference which changes crimps some, if there is a few gun clubs mixed in with my AAhs or vice versa, no worries, fill em up and shoot em.
