I know there have been posts about this topic but I don't know if anyone has addressed this concern. I have a Fausti gun with a walnut finish with very shallow scratches that haven't gut the grain of the wood but are more like impressions in the wood. I am comfortable with using steam/towel method to raised the dents but it obviously would disperse some of the oil in the wood and change the appearance. I have read using boiled linseed oil very sparingly to build back the finish but was wondering if you can get the finish to match the rest of the stock.
Here is the plan I was going to use
1. use and iron with a damp cotton towel to stream out the impressions
2. let dry
3 sand lightly with 1000 grit sandpaper to know down the grain and make blend area easier to blend the new finish
4 apply very very light coat of boiled linseed oil with a bare hand and let dry overnight
5 prior to applying next coat wipe with 0000 steel wool and apply oil
6 repeat until matching
Based on this can I get it back to all matching? I have attached a picture that makes them look as bad as I possibly good to show current state
