I have been contemplating a red dot sight for my 870 for awhile now. This gun serves as a fun gun but needs to work for HD (it has a 18.5" barrel, knoxx stock, 7shot). Anyways, when looking for a red dot for a shotgun, what am I looking for? I imagine I would not want much magnification. Anything else?

Depends on your budget. I hear
the speed bead is great for clays. Has a big reticle for clays and quick target acquisition.

This set up is as easy to install as taking off the stock.

Things to keep in mind, can the battery be changed without having to zero the sight again. Not a necessity but a big plus. Adjustable red dot size, mounting options, weaver vs picatinny etc.

Honestly though for HD, light and a front bead is good enough. If low light is a concern then look at adding a bright flash light. This easily silhouettes the front sight and makes it easy for targeting.
