Are Remington 1100s (12 Gauge)fom the mid 70s compatable with the current barrels? In other words, can I take a mid 70s 1100 and buy a new rem choke barrels for it? I know there are issues with the 20 gauge models, but are all 12 gauges interchangable? Thanks in advance, great info on this site.

I did just that. I'm not absolutely sure when mine was manufactured, but I bought it used in about '83.

Yes. I have a mid 70's 1100 magnum with a new steel shot rem choke barrel on it.

Yes. If you are looking at a 3", the steel shot barrel is the ticket. If you are looking for a 2-3/4" barrel with tubes, get the Light Contour barrel. It feels as sweet as the originals with fixed choke.
