All:

I just put a new firing pin in my 1100, but when I put it back together, the bolt doesn't lock up properly. That is, with the barrel in and breach closed, I can still pull the barrel out of the frame without opening the bolt.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

My 1100 does the same thing, so I assume that there is nothing wrong with it since I just shot it (safely) a few days ago. My guess is that the locking block doesn't actually "lock" the bolt to the barrel until the gun is actually fired. Or, it might be that removing the magazine cap relieves the pressure on the bolt allowing it to unlock the action from the barrel extension.

I just checked the Mrs.' 20 ga and it does the same thing. If it is fully assembled and I remove the mag cap while the bolt is closed. I can pull the barrel. The entire bolt/carrier move forward a skosh and then the barrel will come off. We were just shooting last night and the gun is fine.

Thanks guys. I checked with a friend who has one and got the same answer. I've owned mine for 25 years and would have sworn the barrel was locked in place with the bolt closed. I may have been so sure that it wouldn't work that I never tried just yanking the barrel out.

Whew! You'd think after all that time and thousands of rounds, I'd know it cold. Amazing how you can wind up chasing your tail!

Thanks again.
