Remington Arms Co. Double barrel 10 Gauge Side by side: Please help me.
I would like to know where the serial no. should be and any info. you can give me about this gun. It has various numbers stamped into it one repeatedly: 75813. Is that the ser. no.? I inherited it from my father who got it from his father. I remember shooting it once when I was a kid. 40 yrs old now.

http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtop ... =remington Ok I looked before posting and then looked more after posting. That is the gun. Mine doesn't look nearly as good. Question, is this gun still shootable with modern loads if it is otherwise in good condition?
http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtop ... ngton+arms Ok I found another post about this same type of gun. So now I know that the number "3" to the left of the ser. no. is a grade. So how many grades were there. So I guess 3 is lower grade than a 2 right?
If it has external hammers and is marked "Remington Arms Co." it is a model 1889. Grade 3 is better than 2. The grades are one through seven. Your gun was made in 1896.

Yes it does have external hammers. 1886! D*amn thats old. Cooll. Mine like I said has been really used which I think is great, since I know a few birds were put on the table with this gun. It didn't just sit in a cabinet. In fact the stock is cracked and has copper wire wrapped around it.
I would NOT shoot modern ammo out of this gun!

Get it to a competent gunsmith to make sure it's in safe shooting condition, then work on finding blackpowder or low pressure loads you can use in this gun.
