I would like to know where the serial no. should be and any info. you can give me about this gun. It has various numbers stamped into it one repeatedly: 75813. Is that the ser. no.? I inherited it from my father who got it from his father. I remember shooting it once when I was a kid. 40 yrs old now.

If it has external hammers and is marked "Remington Arms Co." it is a model 1889. Grade 3 is better than 2. The grades are one through seven. Your gun was made in 1896.
Yes it does have external hammers. 1886! D*amn thats old. Cooll. Mine like I said has been really used which I think is great, since I know a few birds were put on the table with this gun. I would NOT shoot modern ammo out of this gun!
Get it to a competent gunsmith to make sure it's in safe shooting condition, then work on finding blackpowder or low pressure loads you can use in this gun.
