D - all of the above!
I have purchased three NIB Remingtons since last Christmas. I have a 1100 Sporting 12, an 870 Express 12 gauge ("wood" stock), and a 597 base model synthetic (.22LR). All three combined cost less than $1000.
I love all my Remingtons. Although there are certainly higher quality firearms out there, I feel current production Remingtons offer a lot of gun for the money. They fit well, and as long as you keep the autoloaders clean, they work just fine for me. The wood used on my 1100 Sporting is comparable to custom stockwork I have (and have seen).
My "wish list" for the future (2005?) would include a 332 O/U and an 870 Classic trap.
