I have an old side lever shotgun in 10 ga that I believe to be an 1893 model Remington. I found a good discussion of this type gun in the archived forum topics and from that am pretty sure of the identification. My gun has a low serial number of 341 marked on the bottom of the receiver and barrel. Does that low serial number influence the value of the gun with all other condition issues being the same. In this case, the gun is in good condition, i.e. locks up tight, metal surfaces have a smooth, dark-brown patina with the receiver being slightly brighter but slightly pitted on the bottom (where serial number is stamped) and on trigger guard. The walnut stocks are in good condition with no cracks and checkering is distinct. The firearm was acquired several years ago at an estate sale. It looks great, but I will not shoot it. Any thoughts on approximate value and manufacturing date would be appreciated. This is my first post to this forum and am looking forward to the knowledgeable comments I see here so often.
